Chinese car company Changan and Canadian company Electrovaya are partnering to bring electric cars to Canada later this year. The partners are taking a Changan model the BenBen and putting in a Eletrovaya powertrain. The first fleet of cars will be assembled and distributed in Canada with longer term plans to develop and build the electric vehicles in China and then ship them to Canada.
It is expected to be a very affordable alternative for drivers as the gas version BenBen typically retails for around 5k. Given the demand for hybrid cars it is reasonable to think the companies will look to expand porduction fairly quickly if the car is well received and possibly look to expand into the United States market soon after.
