Plastic Water Bottles Just Got Worse
We all know there is a major problem with all those plastic water bottles that go unrecycled in the world. They just end up in landfills needlessly. Did you know how much energy it takes now to produce that bottled water though?
Researchers at the Pacific Institute in California crunched the numbers and found that plastic water bottle production alone uses 50 million barrels of oil a year! That's is almost three days of US oil consumption by itself. Throw in the energy requirements to fill the bottles and transport them to point of sale and it gets ridiculous.
Bottom line drinking bottled water is up to 2000 more times energy intensive than just turning on the tap water for a glass of water. Bottled water is basically just tap water anyway.
